I have never been to Lake Powell in the 24 years of my life living in Utah! Isn't that just ridiculous? Well... I'm happy to report that is no longer the case. A few weeks ago we went with my dad's side of the family down to Powell and it was such a blast. My favorite part had to be watching Ryan get all giddy about being in Lake Powell. He was seriously so happy to be down there. His family used to go every year when he was growing up on his Grandpa's house-boat so Powell holds a special place in his heart. I'm pretty sure that when we have kids Ryan will insist on going down every year, and I'm all game for it because I loved Powell!
It was especially fun getting to know our aunts, uncles, and cousins better. I seriously have such a fun family.

The first night there we projected a movie on to the side of the mountain. That was so much fun. And of course Pat and Ladeen had kettle corn in those cute little popcorn bags for everyone. We felt like we were at an old drive-in movie. I'm a little bugged I didn't get any pictures of it. The second night, Pat had put together a game of Survivor (like the TV show). She's so creative. Boys vs. Girls with relays, eating horrid things, races... it was a blast. Pardon these pictures, my phone doesn't take the best photos in the dark.

| I broke a few toes the third day there... hiking with wet flip-flops not a good idea. Talk about swollen |
Ryan's family always stopped here in Hanksville to get shakes. So we made sure to stop on the way there and back. It was delicious!
Overall it was such a fun vacation. We learned two things- 1)Never leave half way through, it's super lame and you don't want to leave. 2)Bring water shoes. Yay Lake Powell!
Are you not kidding? You broke toes!? Was it the worst kind of pain imaginable!!? But Lake Powell is the best!!!! I think 90% of Utahans hold it dear to their hearts as an ideal family getaway. I know I do.
ReplyDeleteI did!!! And the braking part was nothing compared to the hiking back down the cliff after I did it. And the whole limping around thing for two weeks after wasn't the best, I looked pretty pathetic. But they aren't hurting half as much now and the swelling is gone.
ReplyDeleteI love this.Mason's family also go every year and we finally can go this year (either work or me being pregnant had prevented us from going the last few years) and this gets me so excited.I have only been one other time and that is when Mason and I dated the first time forever ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally there next year!!!
ReplyDeleteI went about three times with the Gardners to lake Powell. I LOVED it. I am glad you guys had such a fun time!!
ReplyDeleteTrips are always better when documented in ways to remember. I'm glad you got to experience Powell! I truly feel at home there.
